APC is wooing Kwankwaso ahead of 2027 polls, says Kano NNPP chairman

Hashimu Suleiman Dungurawa, chairman of the Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has claimed that the All-Progressives Congress (APC) is seeking Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso as its “better option” for the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking to journalists in Kano on Thursday, Dungurawa said the APC had become “weak, confused and directionless,” insisting that the ruling party was now searching for a credible figure who could boost its chances in the next general election.

“The APC is weak, confused and has lost direction; that is why they are looking for a better option, and the only better option is Dr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso,” he said.

According to him, the APC “knows it will be nowhere to be found in 2027,” adding that Kwankwaso’s popularity makes him the most viable candidate the party could hope to field.

Dungurawa stressed that Kwankwaso had not made any move to return to the APC, claiming instead that it was the ruling party that was seeking him out due to its declining public support.

He accused the APC of failing to improve the welfare of Nigerians despite being in power for over a decade, arguing that hardship, poverty and insecurity had worsened under its leadership. He said Kwankwaso, if elected president in 2027, would address these challenges.

The NNPP chairman urged Nigerians—particularly residents of Kano—to register and obtain their voter cards ahead of the elections, saying this would empower them to support Kwankwaso “who will change their lives for the better.”

On the 2026 Kano State budget presented on Wednesday by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Dungurawa praised the N1.368 trillion proposal, describing it as capable of significantly improving the lives of citizens.

He noted that, like the state’s 2025 “Budget of Hope,” the 2026 appropriation—tagged “Budget of Infrastructure, Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development”—would drive major developmental projects in education, health, agriculture, road construction, water supply, as well as youth and women empowerment
