Yuletide: FCT Police warn against firecrackers

10,000 Police constables graduated to boost national security

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has issued a strong warning to residents against the sale and use of firecrackers, knockout explosives, and other unapproved pyrotechnic devices during the festive season.

In a statement released on Monday, Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer, said the advisory followed growing concerns over the circulation of these explosives across the Territory.

The Command noted that the items pose significant dangers, including injuries, fire outbreaks, and panic among residents.

According to statement, the devices not only threaten public safety but also create opportunities for criminals to disguise their activities under the noise and chaos they generate.

The Command also highlighted the risks to children, the elderly, and individuals with health conditions who may be particularly vulnerable to sudden loud explosions.

Miller Dantawaye, Commissioner of Police, has directed operatives across the FCT to intensify enforcement, arrest violators, and ensure prosecution in line with existing regulations.

Residents were urged to remain law-abiding and to report anyone involved in the sale or use of firecrackers.

Reports can be made at any police station or through the Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08068587311.

The Command assured that it remains committed to maintaining peace and safety throughout the festive period.
