Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir of Bauchi State has mourned the death of the former chairman of the correspondents’ chapel under the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Bauchi State council, Iliya Habila, who passed away today as a result of protracted illness.
In a condolence message through his adviser, media and publicity, Mukhtar Gidado. Mohammed described late Habila as an exemplary journalist whose integrity, courage, and professionalism set him apart in the media landscape.
Late Iliya Habila was the senior special adviser on media and publicity to the former speaker of the 8th Assembly, Rt Honourable Yakubu Dogara, also former chairman of Bogoro Local Government Area and the former NUJ secretary, Adamawa State council.

The governor said that late Habila demonstrated unwavering dedication to the ethics of journalism and to the pursuit of truth.
He said that late Habila’s contributions enriched public discourse and strengthened the democratic space in our state and beyond.
“In public service, Mr. Habila distinguished himself through his humility, competence, and rare leadership qualities. He dutifully served as Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Bogoro Local Government Area and was also elected Executive Chairman of the Local Government during my administration. In these capacities, he worked tirelessly for the development and unity of his people, leaving behind a legacy of service, accountability, and compassion, “the Governor said.

He further said that late Habila was a committed and loyal member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), advocating for progress, good governance, and peaceful coexistence. Added that his loyalty, wisdom, and gentle disposition will be sorely missed by his colleagues, the government, and all who had the privilege of working with him.
Governor Mohammed prayed that may the Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest, comfort his family, and give them the strength to bear the great loss.
