Governments urged to embark on regular training of teachers for quality education

Governments at all levels have been called upon to embark on regular training and retraining of teachers to enable them to attract quality professionals and secure Nigeria’s educational future.

Gideon Bakare, the President of Federal Government College, Idoani Alumni Association, Akure Mega Chapter (Ondo and Ekiti States), made the call on Sunday in Akure during their 2025 end-of-year party and award night.

According to him, lack of training and retraining of teachers is the major factor militating against quality and sustainable education in the country.

Bakare said if teachers are well-trained, they would be able to impart quality knowledge to their students.

He said regular training would make teachers embrace new thinking in learning and innovations.

He said if the government could concentrate on developing teachers’ skills, it would go a long way in improving the quality of students.

Bakare also said that the government should respect and safeguard the right of every child to quality education by providing adequate funding and investment in education.
