Coalition welcomes Peter Obi into ADC, rallies members for democratic rebirth

The Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) has formally welcomed Peter Obi, former Anambra State governor into the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the development as a defining moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey.

Rwang Pam, COPDEM National Chairman stated this on Thursday in Jos at a press conference to welcome Obi into the party.

Pam said Obi’s decision to join the ADC was more than a political move, describing it as “a statement of conscience” and a rejection of politics without principles, accountability, and compassion for the masses.

He noted that the “ADC represented values of integrity, inclusion, and people-centered governance”, adding that Obi had actively supported and campaigned for ADC candidates over the past year, particularly in Anambra State and the Federal Capital Territory.

According to him, Obi’s reputation for prudence, transparency, and fiscal responsibility aligned with the aspirations of Nigerians seeking responsive leadership and a government that works for the common good.

Pam said COPDEM, as a coalition committed to democracy, social justice, rule of law, and zero tolerance for corruption, saw Obi as a dependable partner who had consistently spoken truth to power.

He assured Obi of COPDEM’s full backing, claiming that over five million members of the coalition nationwide were prepared to support his political journey within the ADC, while more than 20,000 COPDEM members had already obtained ADC membership cards.

The COPDEM chairman said Obi’s alignment with the ADC strengthened democratic forces across the country and signaled the emergence of a new political culture focused on service, solutions, and national unity.

He reaffirmed COPDEM’s commitment to mobilization, civic education, voter awareness, and the protection of democratic values, stressing that collaboration and principled leadership could reposition Nigeria on the path of progress.

Pam called on Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to actively participate in the democratic process, urging them to register with COPDEM and join efforts aimed at rescuing the country from decline and building a just and prosperous nation.
