Barely three years after serving a jail sentence for illicit drug trafficking, 80-year-old Jeremiah Isaiah Nkanta has once again found himself in the grip of the law.
Nkanta, a notorious drug dealer, was rearrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) after intelligence reports revealed that he had returned to the illegal drug trade despite his advanced age and previous conviction.
The octogenarian was first arrested on December 14, 2022, and subsequently prosecuted at the Federal High Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where he was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for dealing in illicit drugs.
However, NDLEA officials disclosed that Nkanta resumed his criminal activities shortly after regaining freedom. Acting on credible intelligence, NDLEA operatives on Saturday, January 10, 2026, tracked him to his residence in Mmanta–Abak village, Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
During the operation, the elderly ex-convict was arrested with 5.7 kilograms of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis, recovered from his home.
The agency described the arrest as another reminder that it remains relentless in its fight against drug trafficking, regardless of age or past convictions.

I have been reporting for several years now and I am very interested in visual news reportage with strong inclusion of photos and video multimedia.
