Bayelsa Police Arrest Three Officers After Viral Video of Tricycle Rider Assault



The Bayelsa State Police Command has taken disciplinary action against three of its officers following a viral video that captured them assaulting a commercial tricycle operator in the state.
The footage, which circulated widely on social media, showed the officers physically confronting the rider, who was heard pleading that he was on his way to receive medical treatment at an undisclosed location within Bayelsa State.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, ordered the immediate arrest of the officers involved after the video came to public attention.

CP Edebor strongly condemned the incident, describing the conduct of the officers as unacceptable and a clear violation of professional policing standards. He stressed that such actions run contrary to the core values and ethics of the Nigeria Police Force.

According to the police spokesperson, the arrested officers are currently facing disciplinary procedures in line with the provisions of the Police Act and other relevant regulations guiding police conduct.

“The Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, psc, IICFIP, foosi, has condemned the act in strong terms, describing it as unacceptable and contrary to professional policing standards,” Mohammed said.

He added that the police boss reiterated that the command has zero tolerance for human rights violations, unprofessional behaviour or brutality, assuring the public of its commitment to lawful and accountable policing.

“The officers involved have been arrested, and disciplinary proceedings have commenced in accordance with extant regulations,” the statement noted.

CP Edebor further reaffirmed the command’s resolve to protect the rights and safety of all residents of Bayelsa State while ensuring that policing duties are carried out with professionalism and respect for human dignity.
