From October 13 to 17, 2025, the National Amputee Football Championship will ignite fierce rivalry among top teams including Kano Pillars, Kwara FC, Kaduna State, Imo State, Abba Gida Gida FC, Niger State, Plateau State, and Phoenix FC. This thrilling event will be hosted at the FIFA Goal Project located within the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
More than just a battle for national supremacy, this championship acts as a critical platform for talent identification ahead of the 2026 Amputee World Cup, set to take place in Liberia and Costa Rica from July 31 to August 9, 2026. Fans can anticipate some of the most dynamic and skillful amputee football performances ever witnessed in Nigeria.
Chief Paul Maduakor, President of the Nigeria Amputee Federation, lauded the athletes for their relentless dedication. “The perseverance and sacrifices demonstrated by these teams highlight the significant strides amputee football has made in Nigeria,” he remarked. “This championship is a vital avenue for players to hone their skills and gain essential exposure.”
Nonye Nwose, the Federation’s Secretary-General, underscored the importance of hosting the tournament in Abuja, calling it a strategic effort to boost the sport’s visibility nationwide. “Staging the championship in the capital city amplifies awareness and fosters wider support for amputee football,” she stated. “It also provides players with the opportunity to refine their talents under the national spotlight.”
Technical Director Victor Nwenwe highlighted the event’s role as a key assessment tool for nurturing and selecting players for the national amputee football squad. “This competition is crucial for tracking player development and pinpointing those prepared to represent Nigeria on the global stage,” he explained.
