Tomilola Adeniran, an acclaimed playwright and actor widely known as the viral valedictorian from Pan-Atlantic University, has creatively transformed the typical conversations heard at Lagos bus stops into a compelling musical theatre piece titled The Wait. This enthralling production is set to grace the stage at the Lagos International Theatre Festival (LITF) on November 15th and 16th, hosted at the MUSON Center.
The Wait unfolds as a sharp and heartfelt 30-minute musical drama, entirely situated at a lively Lagos bus stop. It intricately connects the lives of three strangers, each rushing with their own urgent purpose, who discover unity through shared aspirations, everyday struggles, and the amusing truths of Nigerian daily existence. With catchy melodies, witty exchanges, and touching moments, the story explores themes of perseverance, solidarity, and the surprising friendships that emerge in commonplace environments.
On the inspiration behind the play, Tomilola expressed, “The Wait is my homage to Lagos-its pulsating vibrancy, contagious joy, and relentless spirit. Showcasing this narrative at LITF, where audiences intimately connect with these realities, feels like the perfect platform.”
Founded through the visionary leadership of Bolanle Austen-Peters in collaboration with Lagos State, the Lagos International Theatre Festival (LITF) has rapidly established itself as Nigeria’s premier international stage for theatre and live performance arts. Since launching in 2024, the festival has evolved into a vibrant hub for storytelling, cultural exchange, and creative exploration, showcasing a rich variety of performances, educational workshops, and global partnerships.
After its premiere at LITF, The Wait will be made available for licensing, enabling theatres, educational institutions, and community groups to present authentic Nigerian stories that resonate deeply with audiences around the world.
