On September 30, the Lagos State Police Command presented Shamusideen Oladiti, also known as Shameleon and a prominent figure in the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), before the Ebute-Meta Magistrate Court in Yaba. He faces serious allegations related to the fatal assault of a dispatch rider.
Oladiti, aged 55, was arraigned on three charges: murder, conspiracy, and causing grievous bodily harm.
The charges stem from incidents that reportedly took place between August 27 and September 17, 2025, within the jurisdiction of the Lagos Island Magisterial District.
During proceedings, the prosecution revealed that Oladiti, together with unidentified accomplices, violently attacked two individuals, Imam Ramon and Omale Samuel, inflicting severe injuries. Ramon was immediately taken to Lagos Island General Hospital, Marina, where he later passed away due to the extent of his wounds.
The court was informed that these actions violate Sections 223, 411, and 245 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.
Investigations indicate that the conflict originated after the victim was accused of damaging Oladiti’s vehicle on Tapa Street, Lagos Island.
Witnesses recounted to law enforcement that Oladiti and his group repeatedly struck the dispatch rider with a helmet and fists, leading to his collapse. Despite being rushed to medical care, the victim succumbed to his injuries.
Upon hearing the charges, Oladiti entered a plea of not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate ordered that Oladiti be held in custody pending further directives from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
