The Nigerian Armed Forces (NAF) leadership announced on Saturday the detention of 16 officers due to breaches of discipline and violations of military codes, uncovered during a routine internal review designed to strengthen discipline and professionalism within the ranks.
Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Defence Information Director, disclosed in an official release that initial inquiries indicated the officers’ misconduct was primarily linked to frustrations over stalled career progression and repeated unsuccessful attempts at promotion exams, alongside other internal service challenges.
Several of these officers were already subject to military disciplinary proceedings for various infractions, with some currently facing or awaiting trial.
Their recent behavior was found to be incompatible with the exemplary standards expected of members of the armed forces.
Brigadier General Gusau further explained that once investigations are finalized, those proven guilty will face the full extent of military judicial processes, in line with the Armed Forces’ disciplinary framework.
The NAF leadership reiterated its strict stance against any conduct that compromises the institution’s integrity or jeopardizes its constitutional responsibilities under democratic governance.
Affirming its steadfast dedication to professionalism, the command underscored its commitment to upholding legal frameworks, constitutional order, and safeguarding the nation’s sovereign authority.
