Mimiko denies leading Jonathan’s 2027 presidential consultations in South-West

Former Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has dismissed reports claiming he was appointed to lead former President Goodluck Jonathan’s 2027 presidential consultation team in the South-West, describing the publication as “a concocted rumour dressed in news.”

The report, which circulated in a national newspaper, alleged that Mimiko was chosen to head consultations ahead of a possible political comeback by Jonathan and that the nomination was recommended by former Osun State Governor and current National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola.

Reacting in a statement issued in Akure by his former Chief Press Secretary, Eni Akinsola, Mimiko categorically denied the claims, insisting he had neither been contacted nor appointed for any campaign assignment.

“The falsehood in the report is obvious from the get-go. It is just the work of a journalist flying with concocted rumour dressed as news,” the statement said.

The former governor maintained that while he holds the former president in high esteem, he has no involvement in any 2027 political mobilization or consultation linked to Jonathan.

“The Mimiko that I know respects former President Jonathan but has neither been reached nor appointed for a campaign that is still the subject – and may well end as a subject – of fanciful speculation. I am sure he is also not job-hunting,” Akinsola added.

The statement further cautioned the public against believing politically motivated fabrications, noting that as the nation’s political activities gather momentum, “such cooked stories will not be scarce, especially concerning political figures like Iroko who have chosen to remain low for now.”

Meanwhile, the controversy follows recent remarks by Professor Jerry Gana, former Minister of Information and a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, who was quoted as declaring that Goodluck Jonathan** would contest the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking to journalists after a PDP congress in Minna, Niger State, Gana reportedly said: “I can confirm that Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will contest the presidential election in 2027 as PDP candidate, and we should be prepared to vote for him to return as president again.”

Mimiko, however, made it clear that he has no role in any such move, reiterating that the story linking him to Jonathan’s alleged political consultations was entirely false.
