Nollywood actress Eniola Badmus has ignited a wave of controversy online after sharing images of herself at an event she identified as the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
In addition to her acting career, Eniola serves as an aide to the Speaker of the House of Representatives. She expressed appreciation for the platform to deliver a speech centered on innovation, gender equality, and cooperative strategies for advancing sustainable energy.
“I’m honored to have taken part in the Future Africa Forum 2025 held at The Africa Centre, supported by Afreximbank‘s Global Africa Gateway,” she stated. “This was a remarkable opportunity to connect with and gain insights from emerging African leaders championing the continent’s development. The conversations, alliances, and networks established here are priceless, and I eagerly anticipate the new prospects they will create for Africa’s advancement.”
Despite receiving commendations from some quarters, a segment of social media users challenged her assertions. Skeptics pointed out that the photographs were actually captured at the Nigerian Embassy in New York, rather than at the UNGA venue.
One user on X commented, “This location is the Nigerian Embassy in New York (Nigerian House), not the United Nations building. This was not a #UNGA event, and she did not deliver a speech there. The attempt to gain attention is over the top.”
Here are a few reactions from the public:
@agbatruthtalk: “Typical falsehoods from APC supporters! To be part of them, you must be a former convict, a fraudster, or a compulsive liar. Eniola Badmus fits the last category perfectly. She was busy mouthing ‘thank you and amen’ to people unaware she was fabricating.”
“Wow. Eniola Badmus has embarrassed herself with that Instagram post. Why pretend to be something you’re not? She’s now a permanent subject of ridicule.”
@ifydeyforyou: “I can’t stand Nigerians, look how quickly they exposed Eniola Badmus, what a fool.”
@onyekanwelue: “People should stop attacking Eniola Badmus. Have you forgotten the person who claimed to be a UN Ambassador? He reinvents his identity every four years!”
