Sheikh Lawal Abubakar Triumph, a well-known Islamic scholar from Kano, has been temporarily barred from all preaching and teaching duties as authorities investigate accusations of blasphemy against him.
The Kano State Shura Council took this action following claims that Triumph made disrespectful remarks about Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him).
During a press briefing in Kano on Wednesday, the council’s Secretary, Shehu Wada-Sagagi, revealed that the investigative panel had reconvened to reassess the charges directed at the cleric.
He stated that the committee thoroughly reviewed audio and video materials related to the allegations, ensuring all evidence was meticulously analyzed and recorded.
“Claims lacking credible proof were dismissed, whereas those supported by concrete evidence were formally documented,” Sagagi explained.
He also noted that moments where the cleric appeared hesitant or faltered in the recordings were carefully noted in the committee’s findings.
The committee has decided to summon Sheikh Triumph to present his defense, after which a comprehensive report along with recommendations will be forwarded to the government for appropriate measures.
“The cleric will be given sufficient notice and opportunity to respond before the panel,” assured Wada-Sagagi.
