Senator Calls for United Action to Tackle Security Challenges in Kwara

Saliu Mustapha, the Senator for Kwara Central Senatorial District, has urged everyone to unite in addressing the rising insecurity within the State.

In a statement issued to the press in Ilorin, Mustapha voiced his concern over the escalating security issues affecting areas in Kwara South and Kwara North Senatorial Districts.

He highlighted that Kwara has long been recognized as one of Nigeria’s most peaceful states. However, the recent surge in banditry and kidnappings threatens to tarnish this reputation, pulling the State into the broader national security crisis.

“My deepest sympathies go out to the people of Kwara and the families impacted by these tragic events, especially those who have lost their lives. I extend heartfelt condolences to the relatives of the vigilantes, forestry officers, and others who were killed during the recent attacks in Oke-Ode, Ifelodun Local Government Area, as well as in Edu and Patigi LGAs,” he stated.

Mustapha also commended the Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, alongside the Kwara State Government under Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq, CON, and the courageous security personnel who continue to risk their lives to safeguard the community.

He acknowledged that this security challenge is unprecedented in Kwara, which may explain its complexity. He called on citizens to remain patient, exercise restraint, and trust in the ability of both Federal and State authorities to resolve the crisis.

“It is crucial for all stakeholders-political leaders, traditional rulers, community heads, and religious figures-to recognize this as a collective problem that demands a united response. If any part of Kwara is vulnerable, then the entire State’s safety is compromised,” Mustapha emphasized.

He urged political actors, whether in government or opposition, to move beyond divisive rhetoric. “This is a time for solidarity, coordinated efforts, and prayers for divine guidance for our leaders, whose decisions impact every citizen,” he added.

“Kwara is our only home. Our peace, future, and prosperity hinge on the decisions we make now. Everyone must contribute to restoring the tranquility and unity that Kwara is known for.”
