The Lagos State government has declared a two-day traffic rerouting plan to ensure the seamless execution of the Electric Powerboat Racing Championship E1 Series.
This groundbreaking event, recognized as Africa’s inaugural electric powerboat race, is scheduled to take place on the Lagos Inland Waterways at Victoria Island Lagoon from Friday, October 3, through Sunday, October 5, 2025.
Consequently, First Lekki Junction, specifically the inward lane of Ozumba Mbadiwe Street on Victoria Island, will be completely closed to vehicular traffic during this period.
According to a release from the Ministry of Transportation, drivers who typically use this corridor are advised to follow designated alternative routes clearly marked for their convenience.
For example, motorists traveling from Ajah towards Lekki should execute a U-turn at Lekki First Junction near the Pedestrian Bridge, then proceed via Yesufu Abiodun Street to Maroko Police Station. From there, they can access City of David, continue to Ligali Ayorinde Street, then onto Ajose Adeogun, leading directly to Eko Hotel Roundabout. The route continues through Ahmadu Bello Way, Independence Bridge, and McEwen/Onikan to resume their journey.

Alternatively, those traveling from Ajah towards CMS can navigate through Abraham Adesanya to connect with Ogombo Road, then proceed to Okun Ajah Road, linking Coastal Road, Ahmadu Bello Way, Independence Bridge, and McEwen/Onikan to continue onward.
Motorists originating from Lekki and nearby areas heading to Ikoyi or the Mainland are encouraged to use Admiralty Way, cross the Lekki Link Bridge, then take Alexander Road/Bourdillon Way, connecting to Gerrard Road and Osborne Road to reach their destinations.
Another option for travelers from Lekki towards CMS involves taking Yesufu Abiodun Street, linking to Oniru Road, then accessing Aboyade Cole Road, Ligali Ayorinde Street, Eko Hotel Roundabout, and Ahmadu Bello Way.
Similarly, drivers coming from CMS, Independence Bridge, or Ozumba Mbadiwe Street heading inward towards Lekki-Epe Expressway will have clear access routes to Ajah and surrounding areas.
Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Commissioner for Transportation, reassured the public that ample parking facilities will be available at strategic locations including Fidelity Bank, Access Bank, and the Law School premises on Victoria Island to accommodate event attendees.
He also called on all road users to cooperate with officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), who will be stationed along key points of the event routes to maintain orderly traffic flow.
The commissioner further confirmed that the coastal road will remain accessible throughout the two-day diversion period.
Motorists are urged to exercise patience and understanding, as these traffic adjustments are integral to the effective management of the E1 Boat Race event on the Victoria Island waterways.
