Tragedy struck on Tuesday in Kogi State when a boat accident resulted in the loss of at least 10 lives.
Emergency teams successfully rescued 24 individuals, but 42 passengers are still unaccounted for.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed the event via a statement on its X platform on Thursday.
According to the agency, the vessel, carrying around 80 people, capsized on the River Niger during the evening hours.

The statement detailed: “The boat set off from Onugwa community in Ibaji Local Government Area, destined for Olushi village, before it overturned.”
“This tragic accident has resulted in multiple fatalities and numerous individuals reported missing.”
