Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has revealed the severe health challenges he is facing while in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
In a letter to the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kanu disclosed that he is battling tinnitus — a constant internal ringing in his ears — alongside sleep deprivation, hypertension, and multiple organ-related illnesses affecting his liver, pancreas, kidneys, bladder, prostate, and white matter of the brain.
He described tinnitus and lack of sleep as the “gravest threats” to his survival, warning that they increase his risk of stroke, collapse, and sudden death.
Kanu also accused DSS medical personnel of falsifying his health records and failing to provide effective treatment, while subjecting his longtime physician and emeritus medical experts to intimidation.
“It is no exaggeration to say that without Professor Martin Aghaji’s intervention, my health would have deteriorated beyond recovery,” he said.
Kanu appealed for urgent medical attention, insisting that neglect of his conditions amounted to “reckless disregard” for his life.
