The Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, has issued an order directing the Nigeria Police Force and the Inspector-General of Police to immediately halt the enforcement of tinted glass permits for vehicle owners nationwide.
In a provisional judgment delivered on Friday, the court instructed the police to preserve the current situation and “adhere to judicial procedures until further directives are issued in this case.”
This ruling was made at the commencement of proceedings in Suit No. FHC/WR/CS/103/2025, initiated by legal counsel John Aikpokpo-Martins against the Nigeria Police Force and the Inspector-General of Police.
Aikpokpo-Martins challenged the legitimacy of the police’s intensified crackdown on motorists regarding tinted glass permits, contending that the enforcement had devolved into a means of intimidation rather than lawful regulation.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kunle Edun, SAN, who represented the petitioner, confirmed the court’s decision to the press, describing the order as a positive development.
He emphasized, “This directive represents a significant advancement in upholding the rule of law while the substantive matters of the case are being resolved.”
This legal proceeding is poised to provide definitive guidance on the application of tinted glass regulations, an issue that has frequently generated disputes between drivers and law enforcement officials.
