Midfielder Daniel Daga, a key figure for the Flying Eagles, shared his excitement after playing a pivotal role in the team’s narrow victory against Saudi Arabia, according to Soccernet.ng.
After a disappointing start with a loss to Norway, coach Aliyu Zubairu‘s squad showed resilience, though defensive lapses nearly jeopardized their hard-earned triumph.
The match kicked off with Nigeria taking the lead early, as Nasiru Salihu expertly headed in a cross from Suleiman Sani in the 10th minute, setting the tone for an intense encounter.

Following Saudi Arabia’s equalizer by Amar Al Yuhaybi, Amos Ochoche responded with a brilliant free-kick goal, restoring Nigeria’s advantage.
Nevertheless, the Saudis struck once more early in the second half through Talal Haji, leveling the score and forcing the Flying Eagles to intensify their efforts. In a dramatic finish, captain Daniel Bameyi calmly converted a penalty during stoppage time, clinching Nigeria’s first points in the tournament.

Looking forward, the promising midfielder emphasized the importance of the upcoming group stage finale against Colombia, knowing a win would secure Nigeria’s advancement to the round of 16.
“Our next challenge is Colombia in the final group match. We’re aiming for another victory to ensure we move on to the next phase,” Daga stated confidently.
