NDLEA Seizes 588kg Of Drugs, Destroys 6 Hectares Of Cannabis Farms In Adamawa

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully confiscated 588 kilograms of illicit substances and eradicated six hectares of cannabis plantations in Adamawa State.

During a press conference held in Yola, the State Commander, Barr Aliyu Abubakar, revealed that the cannabis farms were destroyed following coordinated raids in Mijilu village, located within Mubi-North local government area. The operation also led to the arrest of five individuals suspected of involvement in drug activities.

Abubakar further disclosed that a total of 58 suspects were apprehended, alongside the seizure of 366.8 kilograms of cannabis sativa, 209.8 kilograms of psychotropic drugs, and 11.6 kilograms of methamphetamine and related substances.

In a notable interception, the agency stopped a Honda vehicle bearing the registration number GUY-12AA (Adamawa) in September. The vehicle, traveling from Akure in Ondo State to Mubi, was found carrying over 500 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa.

Among those detained was Suleiman Mohammed, a former convict and a prominent drug trafficker in the region, who was caught with an additional 40 blocks of cannabis along with another accomplice.

Operation Farauta also recorded a significant breakthrough with the confiscation of 131 kilograms of psychotropic substances and the seizure of a Toyota Sienna used for transporting the drugs.

In alignment with its commitment to reducing drug demand, the NDLEA Command has extended counseling and rehabilitation services to 70 individuals struggling with drug dependency, primarily aged between 18 and 43 years.

Moreover, the Command carried out drug screening tests on 25 persons to ensure that those entering critical roles remain free from the influence of illegal substances.

“These screenings are essential for maintaining safety, enhancing productivity, and promoting excellence in both educational institutions and workplaces,” the Commander emphasized.
