Mohbad’s Father Calls for Legal Action Against Daughter-in-Law, Auxiliary Nurse, and Others

Mohbad’s father demands prosecution of daughter in law, auxiliary nurse, others

Joseph Aloba, the father of the late Nigerian artist Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, has called on the Lagos State Government to initiate legal action against his son’s widow, Omowunmi Aloba, along with others implicated in the Coroner’s Inquest into Mohbad’s untimely death.

This appeal was formally presented in a petition addressed to Lawal Pedro, SAN, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of Lagos State, and was submitted by Aloba’s legal representative, Wahab Shittu, SAN.

Within the petition, Aloba specifically demanded the prosecution of Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse who administered an injection to Mohbad shortly before his passing in September 2023.

Additionally, the petition called for accountability from other individuals who were present at Mohbad’s residence during the incident-particularly those who either invited the nurse or neglected to seek urgent medical intervention.

The petition cited the Coroner’s ruling delivered in July 2025 by Magistrate Taofikat Shotobi, which condemned the nurse’s conduct as both “unlawful and professionally negligent,” highlighting that the injection was given without a doctor’s authorization.

Magistrate Shotobi also criticized Mohbad’s wife for choosing to care for him at home instead of promptly taking him to a hospital.

Despite these clear findings, Shittu expressed frustration that over two months after the Coroner’s verdict, the Lagos State Government has yet to commence criminal proceedings against those implicated.

“Our client, grieving as a father and seeking justice, is deeply dismayed that no prosecutorial measures have been taken since the verdict was issued on July 11, 2025,” the petition stated.

The lawyer urged the Attorney-General to begin prosecution within a 14-day timeframe, emphasizing the case’s sensitivity and significant public interest.

Furthermore, Shittu requested that if the state declines to act, the Attorney-General should grant his legal team formal permission to pursue prosecution on behalf of the government under the Lagos State Administration of Criminal Justice Law.
