At Pamo University of Medical Sciences (PUMS), three recent graduates have been granted immediate employment, alongside a financial award totaling N2.8 million distributed among 28 graduates from the faculties of Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing Science, and Radiography and Radiation Science.
Dr. Peter Odili, the pro-chancellor and chairman of the university council, revealed this generous support during the combined induction and oath-taking ceremony held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Friday.
The event marked the formal induction of graduates from the three departments, overseen by their respective regulatory bodies: the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), and the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN).
Dr. Odili detailed that among the 28 beneficiaries, 18 were nursing science graduates, seven hailed from medical laboratory science, and three from radiography and radiation science. Each of these graduates received a stipend of N100,000. Additionally, three radiography and radiation science graduates were offered automatic employment at Pamo Teaching Hospital in Port Harcourt.
The former governor of Rivers State reassured the medical laboratory science and nursing graduates that the university’s governing council is committed to facilitating their employment opportunities.
He encouraged the new graduates to uphold the university’s reputation, following the commendable examples set by their predecessors.
“We expect you to represent this institution with honor. The positive reports we continue to receive from alumni are truly inspiring,” he emphasized.
In his opening remarks, Professor Smith Jaja, the acting vice chancellor of PUMS, reminded the graduates that the commitments they made during the induction and oath-taking ceremony are lifelong responsibilities they must carry forward.
