Police arrest kidnappers behind murder of young woman in Nasarawa

Police arrests suspected IPOB informant in Anambra

The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested suspected kidnappers responsible for the abduction and killing of Miss Favour Francis from Ombi Anzaku community in Lafia Local Government Area.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued to journalists on Monday in Lafia, noting that the operation was part of the command’s ongoing efforts to eradicate criminal activities across the state.

According to Nansel, members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) in Ambana village, Lafia, apprehended two suspects—names withheld—on Sunday, October 5, at about 8:30 p.m., and handed them over to the police.

He explained that the incident leading to the arrest occurred on Friday, October 3, around 10:00 p.m., but was not reported to security authorities immediately.

“Upon receipt of the suspects, Shettima Jauro-Mohammed, Commissioner of Police in the state, ordered operatives of the command tactical unit to swiftly launch an investigation,” Nansel stated.

He added that further investigation by the tactical team led to the arrest of another suspect in Angwan Nunku, Lafia, who later took police operatives to the site where the gang had hidden their weapons.

“The suspect later led operatives to the location where their locally made rifle, five live cartridges, and the knife used in stabbing the victim were concealed,” he said.

The police spokesperson revealed that two of the suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation, while efforts were ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the gang.

He also confirmed that the victim was rescued alive and taken to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lafia, but sadly died while receiving treatment.

SP Nansel, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, commended the VGN and police operatives for their swift response and effective collaboration that led to the arrests.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information to assist security agencies in combating crime.

“The command will not relent in its efforts to ensure that all criminal elements are apprehended and brought to justice. We also encourage residents to keep supporting the police with information that can aid investigations,” he added.
