Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has been honored with the prestigious Golden Award of Excellence for Education and Teacher Friendliness by the national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT).
The award was presented to Governor Radda during the 2025 World Teachers’ Day festivities held at Eagle Square, Abuja, recognizing his administration’s impactful educational reforms and unwavering dedication to improving teachers’ welfare.
According to a statement from Ibrahim Mohammed, the Governor’s chief press secretary, the accolade reflects the significant strides made under Radda’s leadership.
In his acceptance speech, Governor Radda highlighted that his government has allocated more than 25% of the state’s budget to education over the past two years, marking an unprecedented focus on advancing the sector.
He further revealed that Katsina undertook a historic recruitment drive, hiring over 7,000 teachers simultaneously-a scale rarely seen nationwide. Additionally, the administration is rolling out incentives aimed at supporting educators in rural areas, ensuring they receive the necessary encouragement and resources to foster community development.
“We applaud your dedication, support your efforts, and remain committed to enhancing your welfare,” the Governor affirmed. “On behalf of our government, colleagues, and the students of Katsina, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the union and all Nigerian teachers, wishing you continued success.”
In related remarks, NUT President Audu Titus Amba praised President Bola Tinubu for maintaining the President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Award. He also expressed appreciation to state governors who have actively supported the celebration of World Teachers’ Day and championed teachers’ causes.
The 2025 World Teachers’ Day, themed “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession,” united education stakeholders nationwide to honor the vital role teachers play in driving Nigeria’s progress.
