ABUJA – On Tuesday, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), called on Abuja residents to refrain from re-electing politicians who have consistently failed to fulfill their commitments. He highlighted that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is actively transforming the region through tangible development projects.
Wike’s comments came during the official launch of the rehabilitation of Old Keffi Road, a vital 15-kilometre stretch connecting Kado Village to Dei-Dei Junction. He described this project as a clear demonstration of the Tinubu government’s dedication to progress.
Emphasizing the significance of the road upgrade, Wike noted that it directly benefits local traders and daily commuters, forming part of a larger emergency infrastructure initiative introduced by the President since 2023.
“Under President Tinubu’s leadership, Abuja is experiencing a surge of development unlike any before. Previous governments had their opportunities but failed to deliver results. We cannot afford to repeat those errors. This administration is changing the narrative for Nigerians and the FCT,” Wike declared.
He further stressed, “We gave them two chances, and they disappointed us both times. Allowing them a third would only bring more setbacks,” a statement that was met with strong applause from attendees.
The minister also revealed that this level of infrastructure development is unprecedented in Abuja, with 27 additional projects slated for commencement soon-marking a historic milestone for the territory.
“Our government is focused on improving the living standards of Nigerians and FCT residents. The progress is evident in the roads, schools, and other ongoing projects. Be wary of those who offer empty assurances,” Wike warned.
Regarding the Old Keffi Road initiative, Wike highlighted its crucial role in enhancing commerce and daily transportation. The contract, awarded to Lubrik Construction Company, aims to improve traffic flow and stimulate economic activities along the corridor. He also urged the contractors to prioritize employing local youths, women, and artisans to foster community job creation.
Beyond roadworks, the minister announced the renovation of Government Secondary School in Dei-Dei, alongside 73 other schools currently under construction across the FCT, with more educational projects planned.
In her address, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, Minister of State for the FCT, praised President Tinubu’s focus on people-centered development and commended Wike’s leadership in advancing these initiatives.
“This road serves thousands of commuters every day. Its upgrade will reduce travel time, improve safety, and boost economic activities along the route,” Mahmoud remarked.
She assured residents that the government remains committed to maintaining the pace of infrastructure growth throughout the Federal Capital Territory.
