🎢 A Canadian amusement park has issued a dire warning: without urgent financial aid from the federal government by Tuesday, it may be forced to euthanize 30 beluga whales in its care.
🐬 Marineland, a combined zoo and theme park long criticized for its captive animal practices, shut its doors to visitors last year and is reportedly attempting to liquidate its holdings. Inspectors have reported that the animals are suffering due to substandard water conditions, with 20 whales having died since 2019.
💰 On Friday, the park’s leadership formally appealed to the federal government for emergency funding by October 7. However, Fisheries Minister Joanne Thompson rejected the plea, stating, “Marineland’s failure to develop a sustainable plan for these whales, despite years of captivity, does not obligate the Canadian government to finance your operational costs.”
