INEC reports over 6.8m Nigerians complete voter registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that more than 6.85 million Nigerians have participated in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise nationwide as of October 5.

In its latest Week Six report published on Tuesday via its official platform, INEC revealed that this total encompasses all online pre-registrations recorded since the CVR began across Nigeria.

Women slightly outnumber men among registrants, with females making up 3.58 million (52.23%) and males accounting for 3.27 million (47.77%). The commission also highlighted the active participation of young Nigerians, noting that 4,689,637 registrants fall within the 18 to 34 age bracket.

Moreover, INEC underscored the inclusiveness of the registration process, reporting that 1,728,384 registrants identified as students, while 154,479 were Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs), reflecting the commission’s commitment to broad representation.

By October 5, a total of 1,216,048 Nigerians had fully completed their voter registration. Of these, 658,766 individuals finalized their registration after initially registering online, whereas 557,282 completed the entire process through physical registration centers.

Women continue to lead in completed registrations, representing 675,222 (55.53%) compared to 540,826 men (44.47%).

The youth segment remains dominant, with 897,676 completed registrations from those aged 18 to 34. Students also form a significant group, contributing 424,126 completed registrations during the sixth week alone.

Additionally, INEC confirmed that 17,450 Persons Living with Disabilities successfully completed their registration during this period, reinforcing the commission’s dedication to fostering inclusive electoral participation.
