Aisha Yesufu Fires Back at Umahi: “You Can Only Be a Local Champion in Ebonyi” After Heated Clash with Journalist Oseni

‘You can only be local champion in Ebonyi’ —Aisha Yesufu mocks Umahi after clash with journalist, Oseni

Prominent socio-political advocate Aisha Yesufu has taken a jab at Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, following a contentious exchange he had with Arise Television host Rufai Oseni regarding the expenses involved in certain stretches of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

During a live broadcast on Tuesday, Oseni challenged Umahi by questioning the per-kilometer cost of the highway project, which Umahi claimed led to him being reported to President Bola Tinubu.

Umahi, visibly irritated by the accusation, dismissed the notion that Oseni was significant enough to warrant such a report. The confrontation escalated with Oseni firmly telling the minister to be quiet, asserting that he possessed concrete data indicating the actual costs differed from the figures presented to the Nigerian public.

Responding on X the following day, Yesufu suggested that Umahi’s attitude reflected his lingering mindset as the former governor of Ebonyi State, where he was once a dominant figure.

“There is always an average cost; he didn’t need to specify an exact number,” Yesufu commented.

“It’s reasonable to expect some variation in costs across different kilometers, but providing a rough estimate would have been appropriate.

“Clearly, Dave Umahi still operates as if he’s the local champion of Ebonyi State.”
