Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, Nigeria’s First Lady, during her two-day official visit to Gombe State.

During her brief but impactful two-day stay in Gombe State, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, made a lasting impression on the local community, particularly inspiring women and girls with renewed hope, strength, and confidence to embrace the future.

Though her trip was arranged on short notice, the First Lady expressed genuine happiness to be in Gombe. She shared that the President is highly impressed with the significant strides the state has made, especially under the stewardship of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who holds a special place in the President’s esteem.

“As I departed this morning, my husband asked me to convey his regards to Inuwa Yahaya, to send him his love, and to let him know how proud he is of the progress achieved so far.”

Senator Tinubu’s visit was not political in nature; rather, she came as a maternal figure for the nation. Without prepared speeches or notes, she spoke from the heart, radiating compassion and purpose. Her spontaneous remarks at each event were filled with insight, warmth, and genuine care, touching everyone present.

Her approachable demeanor and nurturing spirit shone through all her interactions. She communicated directly and meaningfully, motivating people of all ages. The excitement on the faces of students attending the launch of her flagship program, “Flow with Confidence,” was unmistakable. As they departed with gifts and renewed motivation, it was evident they had encountered not just a First Lady, but a national mother offering hope and encouragement.

One of her initial duties in Gombe was to officially open the inaugural Gombe Health Summit. She carried out this responsibility with elegance, praising Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his courageous and visionary reforms that have transformed the state’s healthcare system into a benchmark for others.

She described the Governor’s initiatives as “revolutionary and pioneering,” highlighting the expansion of primary healthcare facilities, the upgrading of hospitals across the three senatorial zones, and the innovative strategies to tackle child malnutrition as clear indicators of his administration’s dedication to establishing a robust and sustainable health infrastructure.

“What I witnessed today is truly commendable. Even Bill Gates has recognized Gombe State’s problem-solving approach and dedication to tangible results. We see that spirit alive here, and we are proud of Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s efforts. I am confident the President shares this pride,” she remarked.

Senator Tinubu also applauded the Governor’s decision to enhance the remuneration of healthcare workers, calling it “a testament to transparent and responsible governance.” She expressed optimism that the Governor’s health sector achievements will have a lasting impact for generations.

During her visit, the First Lady inaugurated several key projects, including the Federal Medical Centre in Kumo, the College of Nursing Sciences, and the 100-bed Mother and Child Specialist Hospital. She also launched her signature initiative, Flow with Confidence, engaged with traditional and religious leaders, and participated in a state-hosted banquet.

At the Health Summit’s opening, she introduced the Gombe State Health Workforce Strategic Development Plan (2025-2030), a comprehensive framework designed to guide the planning and deployment of health personnel throughout the state.

The visit culminated in a celebratory moment when the Emir of Akko, Alhaji Umar Muhammad Atiku, honored her with the esteemed traditional title “Sarauniyar Yakin Akko,” recognizing her dedication, compassion, and maternal role in advancing national development.

Speaking at the inauguration of the 100-bed hospital bearing her name, Senator Tinubu stated:

“This hospital symbolizes hope, life, and a promising future for the women and children of Gombe and neighboring areas. I am confident this facility will deliver quality healthcare, reduce maternal and infant mortality rates, and bring comfort to many families.”

She conveyed sincere appreciation to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, his wife Hajiya Asma’u Inuwa Yahaya, and the people of Gombe State for their warm hospitality and the honor bestowed upon her, describing Gombe as a rising state and a shining example of healthcare transformation in Nigeria.
