Orji Uzor Kalu, the former Governor of Abia State and current Senator representing Abia North, has voiced unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu‘s bid for re-election in 2027. Kalu confidently dismisses the chances of key opposition figures-including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, and Labour Party’s Peter Obi-claiming they lack the political strength to challenge Tinubu’s dominance.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Kalu praised Tinubu’s effective stewardship of Nigeria’s economy and governance, underscoring how these achievements, coupled with his extensive political network, make him the frontrunner in the forthcoming presidential contest.
“No candidate currently in the race can outshine President Tinubu,” Kalu declared emphatically.
He also questioned the alternatives available to Nigerian voters, asking, “What new solutions do these contenders bring to the table that we don’t already have under Tinubu’s leadership?”
When specifically asked about the prospects of Jonathan, Atiku, and Obi, Kalu was resolute: “Label them as you wish, but none possess the capacity to surpass Tinubu.”
Furthermore, the All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart advised former President Goodluck Jonathan to refrain from seeking another term, citing constitutional limits that restrict any individual to two terms in office.
“If I were in Jonathan’s shoes, I would not pursue another presidential run. The constitution clearly caps tenure at two terms, and it would be more prudent for him to continue contributing as a venerable statesman,” Kalu concluded.
