Wilfred Ndidi has shared his thoughts on the Super Eagles‘ prospects of making it to the 2026 World Cup, emphasizing the importance of triumphing over Lesotho and Benin in their upcoming qualifiers.
Besiktas midfielder Wilfred Ndidi highlighted the critical need for Nigeria’s national team to secure wins in their next two FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifying matches against Lesotho and Benin Republic.
Currently, the Super Eagles sit third in Group C, having accumulated 11 points from eight matches. They trail the joint leaders, Benin Republic and South Africa, by three points.

For Nigeria to secure a spot at the World Cup, they must win both remaining fixtures and hope that Benin and South Africa falter in their matches.
Ndidi stresses the urgency of winning to clinch World Cup qualification
Ndidi underlined that the team’s foremost goal is to claim full points from these decisive encounters.

“We are fully aware of our current standing,” Ndidi remarked during a conversation with the Super Eagles media team. “These upcoming matches carry immense significance.”
He emphasized a step-by-step mindset, focusing first on the clash with Lesotho before turning attention to Benin.
“Our immediate priority is the game against Lesotho, then we will prepare for Benin. Right now, the Lesotho match demands our full concentration.”
If Nigeria manages to win both fixtures, they will reach 17 points, but their qualification hopes will still depend on South Africa and Benin dropping points in their respective games.
