The Bauchi State Police Command has initiated a formal investigation into the fatal shooting of Constable Ukasha Muhammed, allegedly by a soldier within Bauchi city, following a violent encounter between the two parties.
According to a statement from CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the Public Relations Officer for the Bauchi Police, a Nigerian Army private reportedly discharged a firearm that struck Constable Muhammed in the left chest before fleeing the scene.
“On the evening of October 10, 2025, at around 10:35 PM, the Command received reports of a serious incident involving a patrol team led by Inspector Hussaini Samaila during a routine security operation in the Bayan Gari area,” the statement explained.
“During this patrol, Constable Ukasha Muhammed (F/No 533164) was attacked by two individuals near Padimo Hotel.”
“The suspects, identified as Private Yakubu Yahuza (23NA/85/10185) and Private Godspower Gabriel (23NA/84/5654), were partially dressed in military uniforms and armed with rifles. They confronted the patrol and shot Constable Muhammed in the chest before escaping.”
“The other officers responded swiftly, apprehending one suspect while the other managed to flee.”
The detained soldier has been named as Private Usman Mubarak (23NA/84/5346), currently assigned to the STF Operation Safe Heaven in Jos, Plateau State,” CSP Wakil added.
Constable Muhammed was promptly rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, where medical personnel later confirmed his death.
The police confirmed that the deceased’s remains have been transferred to the morgue, while the arrested soldiers, Yahuza and Gabriel, remain in custody as investigations continue.
In light of the incident, the Bauchi Police Command has formed a dedicated homicide investigation unit to collect evidence and ensure a thorough and fair inquiry.
