• Nursing Mother Dies Suddenly While Breastfeeding

A harrowing incident unfolded on Onisere Street in Ore, located within the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, where a carpenter named Ahmed Toheed has been arrested for the alleged sexual assault and murder of his 64-year-old grandmother, Mulikat Sanni. The crime reportedly occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m.
Sources reveal that the suspect accused his grandmother of witchcraft, blaming her for his misfortunes. It is claimed that he strangled her to death and also subjected her to sexual violence.
Confirming the arrest, Ondo State Police spokesperson Ayanlade Olayinka stated that Ahmed Toheed is currently in custody and has been formally charged. Police prosecutor Augustine Omhenimhen urged the court to keep the accused detained pending further directives from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The charge sheet reads in part: “That you, Ahmed Toheed, male, on September 29, 2025, at about 10:00 p.m., at Onisere Street, Ore, Ondo State Magisterial District, unlawfully strangled Mulikat Sanni, a 64-year-old female, resulting in her death, and engaged in non-consensual sexual intercourse with her, thereby breaching Sections 319 and 358 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.”
Given the gravity of the allegations, the accused did not enter a plea. Defense counsel Benjamin Adeyanju requested an adjournment to prepare a counter-affidavit. Magistrate Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi ordered that Toheed be remanded at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), with the next court session set for October 13, 2025.
In a separate but equally tragic occurrence, a nursing mother in the Oke-Aro area of Akure suddenly passed away while breastfeeding her baby. The woman, who earned a living by selling yams, had reportedly been feeling weak and fatigued prior to the incident.
In an attempt to boost her energy, she drank a bottle of Coca-Cola but unexpectedly collapsed and died on the spot. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where medical personnel confirmed her death upon arrival. Efforts to reach her husband, a commercial driver, have been unsuccessful to date.
