The Super Eagles have finally arrived in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, following an unexpected in-flight emergency that forced their plane to return to Angola mid-journey.

The team touched down at Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo at 8:05 a.m. today, concluding a flight disrupted by a critical technical issue.

While traveling from Polokwane, South Africa, to Uyo, the squad’s chartered aircraft made a scheduled refueling stop in Luanda, Angola. Shortly after takeoff from Luanda, a crack developed on the plane’s windshield, prompting an urgent decision to turn back for safety reasons.

Passengers and crew praised the pilot’s calm and expert handling of the situation, as he skillfully navigated the aircraft back to Luanda Airport without any harm to those on board.

In response, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) swiftly organized an alternative flight departing from Lagos to ensure the team’s timely arrival in Uyo.

This unforeseen incident caused a delay in the Super Eagles’ preparations ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against the Benin Republic-a fixture regarded as essential for Nigeria’s advancement in the tournament.

Now safely back on home ground, the Super Eagles are fully focused on the upcoming encounter, determined to claim a decisive win that could significantly boost their qualification campaign.
