Comrade Timi Frank, former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has urged President Bola Tinubu to promptly dismiss the country’s top security officials amid the relentless surge in violence and killings across Nigeria.
In a statement issued from Abuja, Frank responded to the recent attack in Borno State, where soldiers were reportedly killed by suspected Boko Haram militants. He voiced grave concern over the escalating insecurity, kidnappings, and banditry, labeling the crisis a national emergency demanding immediate executive intervention.
Frank highlighted that Nigerians are being slaughtered “like livestock” on a daily basis throughout the North, South, East, and West, signaling a total breakdown of the nation’s security framework under the current administration.
“Our military and police personnel are perishing in alarming numbers due to inadequate funding and insufficient equipment. Despite substantial budget allocations to the security sector, these resources fail to reach frontline operatives or procure the necessary tools to effectively combat insecurity,” the statement emphasized.
He noted that the ongoing violence has drawn international scrutiny, praising former U.S. President Donald Trump and Senator Ted Cruz for their outspoken condemnation of the continuous killings in Nigeria.
“We appreciate President Donald Trump’s courage and concern in addressing the brutal killings of Nigerians. Similarly, Senator Ted Cruz’s vocal stance against these injustices has helped break the silence within our political elite, particularly those in the ruling party,” Frank added.
As the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) Ambassador to East Africa and the Middle East, Frank also called on the U.S. government, under Trump’s leadership, alongside other global partners, to increase diplomatic pressure on Nigeria to free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
“This government cannot continue to negotiate with terrorists while unlawfully holding peaceful Nigerians captive. We therefore appeal to the international community, especially the United States, to intervene and compel President Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu without delay,” he urged.
Frank further commended President Trump for his role in negotiating the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza, encouraging him to extend similar compassion and leadership by advocating for Kanu’s freedom.
He also praised activist Omoyele Sowore, former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), for his fearless advocacy demanding Kanu’s unconditional release.
Regarding Nigeria-U.S. relations, Frank stressed the significance of maintaining the longstanding friendship between the two countries.
“Nigeria has consistently enjoyed a warm relationship with the United States. We will not permit any administration or individuals to undermine this bond. As Nigerians, we remain dedicated to enhancing our partnership with the U.S. in pursuit of peace, democracy, and global security,” he affirmed.
Frank criticized the Nigerian Senate for their rebuke of Senator Ted Cruz’s remarks on the killings of innocent Nigerians, describing their reaction as “shameful and disappointing.”
“Had the Senate and the National Assembly effectively fulfilled their constitutional duties of oversight and representation-by checking executive excesses such as the prolonged detention of Nnamdi Kanu and ensuring security agencies protect citizens-Senator Ted Cruz would not have singled out Nigeria as a prime example of unwarranted violence and intimidation by criminal groups.
“Observe how they delayed responding to Senator Cruz’s comments, yet over the years failed to champion justice by demanding Kanu’s release or leveraging their oversight powers to hold security chiefs accountable for safeguarding vulnerable Nigerians from brutal attacks,” he concluded.
