Dangote Cement has officially launched a state-of-the-art cement production plant in Attingué, Côte d’Ivoire, situated approximately 30 kilometers from Abidjan, the country’s economic hub. This announcement was made by Serge Gbotta, Managing Director of Dangote Cement Côte d’Ivoire, during a press briefing held at Novotel Abidjan-Marcory.
Covering an expansive 50 hectares, the facility boasts an annual production capacity of 3 million metric tonnes, making it one of the largest Dangote Cement plants outside Nigeria. The project, backed by an investment of 100 billion CFA francs, underscores the company’s commitment to driving industrial growth and boosting regional self-sufficiency in building materials.
“This plant is more than just a manufacturing site; it symbolizes our confidence in Côte d’Ivoire’s bright economic prospects,” stated Mr. Gbotta. “Our goal is to provide Ivorians with top-tier cement produced locally at competitive prices.”
With this new addition, Côte d’Ivoire becomes the 11th African country to host a Dangote Cement facility, contributing to the group’s continental production capacity of 55 million tonnes annually. The Attingué plant is expected to generate over 1,000 jobs, both directly and indirectly, supporting youth employment and stimulating local businesses such as transport operators, craftsmen, retailers, and suppliers.
In an effort to cultivate local expertise, Dangote Cement announced plans to launch training initiatives through the Dangote Academy, aimed at equipping aspiring engineers and technicians with the skills necessary for industrial operations and management.
Stéphane Tchimou, Commercial Director of Dangote Cement Côte d’Ivoire, emphasized the plant’s importance to the construction sector: “Reliable, high-quality cement is essential for builders, contractors, and skilled laborers. Our extensive distribution network will ensure consistent availability of our products nationwide.”
He also highlighted upcoming support programs, including credit facilities and commercial assistance, designed to empower small-scale retailers and strengthen the entire supply chain.
Beyond its industrial objectives, Dangote Cement is dedicated to enhancing the communities surrounding Attingué by investing in infrastructure projects such as road upgrades, clean water programs, and healthcare initiatives, in collaboration with local authorities and non-governmental organizations.
Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, expressed a positive outlook on Africa’s future: “The continent is rich with potential. Our vision is to build a legacy rooted in innovation, manufacturing excellence, and sustainable development for future generations.”
The plant will produce a variety of premium cement products, including CPJ 32.5R for masonry applications, CPJ 42.5N for general construction, and CPA 52.5 for heavy infrastructure projects, reinforcing Dangote Cement’s position as a dependable partner in Côte d’Ivoire’s construction industry. Leveraging cutting-edge technology, the facility aims to significantly reduce cement imports and establish Côte d’Ivoire as a key regional hub for cement production and export.
