Onuachu’s Header Continues Scoring Streak as Trabzonspor Edges Past Rizespor in a Narrow Victory
Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu extended his impressive run of form by scoring his fourth league goal in a row, playing a pivotal role in Trabzonspor’s slim 2-1 triumph over Rizespor at the Çaykur Didi Stadium on Saturday.
Building on a recent unbeaten streak spanning three matches, Trabzonspor asserted dominance early in the encounter.
Within just two minutes, Felipe Augusto opened the scoring for the visitors, setting an aggressive tempo from the kickoff.
Trabzonspor doubled their lead in the 19th minute when Onuachu demonstrated his aerial strength. The towering forward rose above the defenders to connect with a pinpoint cross, sending a powerful header beyond the goalkeeper and securing a comfortable cushion for his team.
Rizespor fought back before the 30-minute mark. Jesurun Rak-Sakyi capitalized on a defensive error, skillfully maneuvering past goalkeeper Andre Onana to pull one back in the 27th minute, reigniting the home crowd’s hopes.
During the second half, Rizespor controlled possession and pressed hard for an equalizer. Despite generating multiple chances, their attempts were hampered by poor finishing and a resilient Trabzonspor defense that absorbed sustained pressure.
Trabzonspor Maintains Unbeaten Run
This win marks Trabzonspor’s fourth game in a row without defeat, elevating them to second place in the Super Lig standings with 20 points-just two points behind the league leaders, Galatasaray.
On the other hand, Rizespor endured their fourth defeat of the campaign, remaining in 12th place with eight points.
Onuachu’s goal was his seventh of the season, solidifying his position as the Super Lig’s top scorer, two goals ahead of competitors Mauro Icardi and Rafa Silva.
Looking forward, Trabzonspor aims to continue their strong form when they face Eyüpspor this Saturday, while Rizespor will be eager to recover in their upcoming match against Başakşehir on Wednesday.
