Four African countries have secured their spots as the continent’s representatives at the upcoming London 2026 ITTF World Team Championships following outstanding performances in Tunis.
Top African table tennis powerhouses Egypt, Nigeria, Tunisia, and Algeria have officially qualified for the 2026 ITTF World Team Championships, scheduled to be held in London, UK. Their strong showings during the group phase of the ongoing ITTF Africa Championships in Tunis ensured their advancement.
Egypt’s men’s team was the first to clinch qualification, showcasing dominant victories against Togo and Côte d’Ivoire. Shortly after, Nigeria confirmed their place with convincing 3-0 wins over Cameroon and South Africa in Group B.

Morocco also progressed by defeating both Cameroon and South Africa, setting up a pivotal encounter with Nigeria to determine the group leader. Meanwhile, Algeria and host nation Tunisia secured their berths by topping Groups C and D, respectively.
On the women’s side, the qualification trend mirrored the men’s competition, with Egypt, Nigeria, and Algeria earning their places in London. A remarkable milestone was achieved by Uganda’s women’s team, who qualified for the first time, marking a significant breakthrough for East African table tennis.
From April 28 to May 10, 2026, London will be the proud host of the ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Finals, commemorating 100 years since both the World Championships and the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) were founded in the British capital.
This prestigious tournament will feature 64 teams per gender. Of these, 52 teams will qualify through continental competitions, 11 will secure their spots based on the world rankings as of November 2025, and one slot will be reserved for the host country, England.
The World Championships stand as the pinnacle of table tennis competition-a stage where legends are made and history is written. As the countdown to London 2026 continues, the international table tennis community eagerly awaits this once-in-a-century celebration on home ground.
