PDP Rejects Forgery Allegations as Adeleke Vows to Push Ahead with Convention

PDP denies forgery claims as Adeleke insists convention to proceed as planned

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has refuted allegations made by its National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, who claimed that his signature was forged on documents submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Meanwhile, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State affirmed that the party’s national convention, scheduled for November 15 and 16, will proceed as planned despite internal challenges.

Speaking in Abuja after chairing the first meeting of the convention’s accommodation sub-committee, Adeleke emphasized the readiness of the party to hold a smooth and successful event.

“We have just concluded the inaugural session of the accommodation sub-committee, with full attendance. All outstanding issues have been addressed to ensure the convention runs without a hitch,” he stated.

Governor Adeleke expressed optimism about the convention’s success, highlighting the PDP’s commitment to proper organization and adherence to legal frameworks.

“Our party has a history of well-organized conventions, and this upcoming one will surpass previous efforts. The PDP continues to strengthen and expand its influence,” he added.

He also reassured that internal disputes within the party would be resolved amicably.

“The PDP is like a family. We prefer to handle our matters internally without external interference. We know how to manage our affairs effectively,” Adeleke remarked.

Addressing recent defections of some governors to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adeleke acknowledged their right to make personal political choices but remained unperturbed.

“Whether governors or ministers, everyone has the freedom to decide their political path. These departures do not diminish the PDP’s strength or widespread support nationwide. They have their reasons, but I remain confident in our party,” he said.

The Osun State Governor also dismissed rumors suggesting he might defect to the APC.

“Some speculate that I might join the APC because of my friendships or attendance at their social events. I am a courteous individual; attending a wedding or social gathering does not equate to switching parties. Currently, I serve as the Deputy Chairman of our upcoming convention and chair the accommodation sub-committee. I remain a dedicated PDP member,” Adeleke clarified.

He further emphasized the party’s focus on unity and success rather than engaging in propaganda or endless debates.

“Political defections happen across all parties; no one can predict the future. Our priority is unity, organization, and a successful convention. With God’s grace, the PDP will continue to thrive,” he concluded.

On the forgery accusations, PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologuagba, recounted that during the 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, the party authorized Anyanwu and National Chairman Umar Damagum to initiate preparations for the convention, including official communication with INEC.

Ologuagba explained, “The NEC approved the timetable for the 2025 national elective convention, set for November 15-16 in Ibadan, Oyo State. The national chairman and secretary were instructed to formally notify INEC of the convention’s date, venue, and agenda, in compliance with Section 82.1 of the 2022 Electoral Act and related party regulations.”

He added that the NEC also ratified the membership of the National Convention Organizing Committee and the National Convention Zoning Committee during the July 24 meeting.

“At the 102nd NEC meeting on August 25, 2025, letters from the chairman and national secretary were presented. Prior to this, a gathering of governors, NWC members, and party leaders took place at the national chairman’s office, with full attendance including Governor Adeleke, Governors Umaru Fintiri, Bala Abulkadir Muhammad, Seyi Makinde, Dauda Lawa, Senator Bukola Saraki, and others,” Ologuagba detailed.

“During that meeting, four letters were signed in the presence of all attendees: a notification to INEC about the convention’s schedule and venue; a letter detailing the composition of the national convention committee; a notice repealing the Southeast 2025 Zonal Congresses; and a notice repealing congresses in Anambra and Ebonyi States, all in accordance with the Electoral Act.”

He concluded by affirming the legitimacy of the documents and the party’s adherence to due process in organizing the convention.
