David Adeleke, widely recognized as Davido, the acclaimed Nigerian Afrobeats icon, has been named Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund.
On Wednesday, October 22, 2025, the Osun State Government officially revealed this key appointment, marking a fresh drive to rejuvenate the state’s sports sector and empower its youth through enhanced athletic initiatives.
The announcement highlighted that Davido’s stewardship is expected to galvanize strong backing from corporate sponsors and government agencies alike, aimed at boosting sports development projects. Central to this vision are the modernization of existing sports facilities and expanding access for young athletes across Osun State. This aligns with Governor Ademola Adeleke‘s commitment to upgrading sports infrastructure and fostering community involvement through athletic engagement.
Deputy Governor and Sports Commissioner Kola Adewusi confirmed Davido’s acceptance of the chairmanship, emphasizing that the artist’s global influence is poised to attract significant investments from both domestic and international partners, thereby accelerating the expansion of sports programs throughout the state.
“Bringing Davido on board is a calculated move. His widespread appeal and dedication will be instrumental in mobilizing resources that will propel sports development in Osun forward,” Adewusi remarked.
He also revealed that the Osun State Sports Commission is nearing completion, an institution designed to oversee sports governance and policy execution. Furthermore, the refurbishment of Osogbo Township Stadium is almost finalized, with ambitions for it to meet international Olympic standards once completed.
