OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Go, a budget-friendly subscription plan designed to expand global access to its state-of-the-art AI tools. Priced at ₦7,000 (around $4.71) and currently available in select regions, this new tier fills the gap between the free version and the higher-end ChatGPT subscriptions.
This offering grants users access to GPT-5, OpenAI’s newest and most advanced language model, along with enhanced features such as image creation, the ability to upload and analyze larger documents, and an extended conversational memory. Subscribers also benefit from improved project management tools and customizable task options.
The rollout spans multiple continents, targeting a diverse range of countries. In Africa, ChatGPT Go is accessible in Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Morocco, and Egypt. In Asia, the service is available in India, Pakistan, and Malaysia, while in North and Central America, countries like El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua are included.
ChatGPT Go represents OpenAI’s strategic effort to serve emerging markets where the existing Plus and Pro plans may be financially out of reach. By offering a subscription at roughly $5 per month in these regions, OpenAI provides an affordable alternative that still delivers access to advanced AI features.
The subscription initially debuted in India in August at ₹399 (approximately $4.60), supporting local payment methods such as UPI, making it the most cost-effective tier OpenAI has introduced to date. Following India, the service expanded to Indonesia with a monthly fee near Rp 75,000 ($4.51). According to OpenAI’s latest announcements, ChatGPT Go is now accessible in 89 countries, including 71 new markets beyond the initial launch.
It’s worth noting that ChatGPT Go does not include API access, which remains separately priced. Additionally, this plan excludes deep system integrations, advanced developer tools, and some legacy model options available in the higher-tier Plus and Pro subscriptions. Users with intensive usage may encounter limits depending on overall system demand.
This expansion aligns with OpenAI’s broader goal to diversify its subscription lineup and attract a wider user base. By introducing a mid-tier option, the company offers a cost-effective way for users to experience sophisticated AI capabilities without the premium cost.
The launch also underscores the growing competition in the generative AI market. With competitors like Google and Anthropic rolling out various AI chat services and subscription models, OpenAI’s competitively priced ChatGPT Go helps maintain its market presence, especially in price-sensitive regions.
For OpenAI, this affordable tier could act as a gateway for millions of new users to explore GPT-5’s capabilities. It also provides a valuable platform to test pricing strategies and enhance product accessibility ahead of a wider global release.
