UK retail sales experienced an unexpected boost last month, reaching their highest point since July 2022. This growth was largely fueled by increased consumer spending on technology products, notably following the launch of the iPhone 17, alongside a robust appetite for gold jewelry purchased through online platforms.
According to the latest data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), retail sales volumes climbed by 0.5% in September. This marks the fourth month in a row of rising sales, defying economists’ predictions which had anticipated a 0.2% decline for the period.
