Police Crackdown: Stop Misusing Uniforms to Intimidate and Harass Nigerians Now!

Don't intimidate, harass Nigerians with your uniforms, Police warn officers

The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has issued a strong appeal to the newly recruited officers to avoid abusing their police uniforms for purposes of intimidation, harassment, or extortion in any area where they serve. He reminded them of their duty to honor their oath and place the safety and welfare of the public above all else.

Speaking to the recruits at the Parade Ground, Commissioner Aliyu highlighted the indispensable values of discipline, dedication, and steadfast commitment as the foundation for ensuring community safety.

He revealed that the new cohort of constables would be systematically assigned across all 20 Local Government Areas within Bauchi State. This deployment is designed to strengthen grassroots policing initiatives and enhance security at the local level.

“Donning the Nigeria Police Force uniform signifies more than authority; it embodies the trust and responsibility bestowed upon you by the people of Bauchi State and Nigeria as a whole. You must consistently demonstrate the utmost professionalism and integrity,” he asserted.

The Commissioner urged the recruits to embrace the fundamental tenets of the Police Force, such as discipline, allegiance, courage, and respect for human dignity.

He stressed their essential role in rebuilding public trust, nurturing constructive community relationships, and promoting safety within their assigned areas.

“Your uniform should stand as a beacon of protection and service, never as an instrument for bullying, intimidation, or exploitation. It reflects your commitment to defending the public,” he added.

Additionally, Commissioner Aliyu highlighted the necessity of prudent social media conduct and strict compliance with the Nigeria Police Act, 2020, which prohibits behaviors that could tarnish the Force’s image.

He also commended the dedication of the instructors and personnel at the Bauchi Police Training School, acknowledging their vital role in preparing the future cadre of Police officers.
