Enoch Enoch, serving as both legal adviser and a member of the PDP caretaker committee in Akwa Ibom State, has openly criticized the recent endorsement of former state chairman Aniekan Akpan by the party’s ward and chapter executives, dismissing it as a superficial gesture lacking true significance.
From his base in Uyo, Enoch described the so-called vote of confidence as a futile attempt by a declining faction to reclaim influence.
“It’s almost absurd that after being removed for misconduct, Aniekan Akpan managed to convince ward and chapter leaders to swiftly endorse a pre-drafted document they call a vote of confidence,” he remarked.
“Had this support been genuine, it would have been secured before his ouster. The facts are evident, yet some disgruntled elements are exploiting this to ridicule and destabilize the PDP in Akwa Ibom.”
Enoch reaffirmed that the executive committee led by Igwat Umoren remains the legitimate and officially recognized leadership of the PDP in the state.
“There is no necessity for any vote of confidence because authentic authority is self-evident and does not rely on external endorsements,” he stressed.
He also condemned recent attacks on the State Party Caretaker Committee as baseless, urging those he labeled as agitators to cease efforts aimed at damaging the party’s reputation.
According to Enoch, in line with the PDP constitution and the rationale behind dissolving the Aniekan Akpan-led executive, the caretaker committee under Igwat’s leadership is the rightful governing authority. He warned members against being swayed by provocateurs attempting to resurrect a defunct faction.
Emphasizing the PDP’s strong organizational structure and extensive grassroots network across the state, Enoch pointed out that many who reluctantly shifted allegiance to the APC still hold the PDP’s principles close and will rally behind the party when it counts.
In conclusion, he affirmed the legitimacy of dissolving the Aniekan Akpan-led executive and lauded the caretaker committee as a rejuvenating force within the state’s PDP.
