The Lagos State Government swiftly responded to a distressing incident involving a mentally unwell woman in Agege, whose behavior had caused alarm among local residents.

Mobolaji Ogunlende, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, shared on his official X page last Friday that a dedicated government task force was dispatched following numerous reports from the community about the woman’s escalating disruptive actions.

The intervention was triggered by a widely shared video depicting a woman, believed to reside at No. 31 Adedosu Street, hurling stones at nearby houses and menacing pedestrians with weapons such as a machete and a knife.

This unsettling footage sparked widespread concern throughout Lagos, leading to urgent appeals for protective measures to safeguard both the woman and the neighborhood.

Commissioner Ogunlende confirmed that the woman has been safely transferred to a state-run medical institution, where she is now under professional care and undergoing rehabilitation.

“She is presently receiving treatment and supervision from qualified healthcare experts at our specialized facility,” the commissioner affirmed. He also urged the public to continue reporting similar incidents to facilitate prompt government intervention for vulnerable individuals.

The Ministry of Youth and Social Development reminded citizens to utilize official emergency contact numbers when faced with mental health emergencies or social disturbances, ensuring timely and effective responses from authorities.
