A Nigerian woman living in the United Kingdom, known on TikTok as Shugar, has courageously opened up about her traumatic marriage, accusing her former husband of abuse, financial manipulation, and deceit throughout their relationship.
In a series of TikTok posts, Shugar revealed that her ex-husband, who is now seeking to reconcile, allegedly diverted her money to fund his mistress’s lifestyle, revoked her sponsorship under his UK visa to force her return to Nigeria, and subjected her to persistent emotional and physical abuse.
She also shared a distressing incident during their marriage when her husband’s carelessness led to a radiator falling on their baby daughter, causing a fracture.
Supporting her claims, Shugar provided audio clips and message exchanges that document her efforts to mend their marriage, including proposals to financially assist with extending their visa. She voiced her conviction in the value of a lifelong marriage, yet her commitment was met with betrayal.
Additionally, she alleged that after aiding her husband in completing his studies in the UK, he attempted to send their child to live with a relative, justifying this by saying that since she was working and studying to secure their future, she was incapable of properly caring for their daughter.
With the help of friends, Shugar secured new employment that now sponsors her UK residency after being removed from her ex-husband’s visa.
She explained that her decision to go public was to counter false narratives reportedly spread by her ex, who depicts her as the one who abandoned the marriage. Shugar stressed that her leaving was a protective measure for herself and their child to avoid further harm.
