Mining cadastre goes live on 1gov as sector revenues hit N30.2bn in 2025

The Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office (NMCO) has gone live on the Federal Government’s 1Gov application, deepening digital governance in the mining sector as revenues rose to N30.23 billion in 2025.

The launch took place on December 10 2025 at the MCO conference room in Abuja, marking MCO’s adoption of a unified digital platform designed to streamline workflow, approvals and inter agency coordination across government.

Obadiah Simon Nkom, director general, NMCO said the deployment of 1Gov strengthens transparency, reduces bureaucracy and improves service delivery to investors and stakeholders in the mining value chain.

He said the platform enables faster approvals, unified document management, traceable transactions, stronger data security and seamless collaboration among MDAs, reinforcing Nigeria’s position as a competitive and secure mining jurisdiction.

The event was attended by Dele Alake, minister of Solid Minerals Development, Oladele Wale Adeoye, permanent secretary to the ministry, and senior officials of Galaxy Backbone, which provides the ICT infrastructure supporting the 1Gov platform.

Nkom said the initiative aligns with the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan, FCSSIP25, driven by the head of the civil service of the federation, to expand government wide digitalisation, performance accountability and service efficiency.

On financial performance, he disclosed that MCO generated N12.58 billion in revenue in 2023 and N6.07 billion in 2024, while collections climbed sharply to N30.23 billion as at December 11 2025, reflecting the impact of sustained digitisation and improved mineral title administration.

He outlined MCO’s digital evolution, including the rollout of the SIGTIM title management system between 2007 and 2010, its upgrade in 2012, and the launch of the electronic mining cadastre eMC+ in November 2022, which allows mineral title applications to be submitted online from anywhere in the world.

Nkom said the eMC+ platform has strengthened investor confidence and ease of doing business, while supporting the Federal Government’s local content policy through the consistent use of the dot ng domain managed by the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA).

He noted that MCO’s digital drive has earned multiple recognitions, including the 2022 dot ng award for digital innovation in federal government, the 2023 NIRA dot ng presidential award, and the 2023 Nigeria GovTech public service award for best federal MDA in citizen centric online service by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms under the Presidency.

Nkom said the integration of 1Gov positions MCO to deliver better outcomes for investors and stakeholders through continuous staff capacity building, interoperability with existing platforms and further service enhancements, as the mining sector supports Nigeria’s economic diversification agenda.
