Nigeria’s Flying Eagles endured a tough start at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, falling 1-0 to Norway in their opening match held at Estadio Fiscal de Talca, Chile, according to Soccernet.ng.
The solitary goal came early in the 9th minute when Rasmus Holten converted a penalty awarded after a VAR review penalized Daniel Bameyi for a foul inside the box.
Despite the setback, the Flying Eagles dominated possession and launched numerous attacks throughout the game, registering 20 shots on goal. Unfortunately, they were unable to capitalize on any of these opportunities.

Below is a detailed assessment of the Nigerian players’ performances during the match.
Player Performance Review: Flying Eagles

Ebenezer Harcourt – 6.0/10: The Sporting Lagos goalkeeper had a relatively quiet evening, facing only a single shot-the penalty kick-which he was unable to stop.
Odinaka Okoro – 6.9/10: Okoro delivered a solid performance, spending much of the match pressing high in Norway’s half. Although he showed energy and creativity, he couldn’t manage to register a goal or assist.
Daniel Bameyi – 6.5/10: As captain, Bameyi had a mixed outing. He was responsible for conceding the penalty but showed resilience by recovering well and helping to contain Norway’s limited attacks.

Ahmed Akinyele – 7.5/10: Akinyele stood out as Nigeria’s top performer, demonstrating impeccable defensive discipline and swift ball distribution from the back. His composed and effective play was a highlight for the team.
Amos Ochoche – 6.5/10: Similar to Okoro, Ochoche focused more on offensive ventures than defensive duties. However, his impact in the attacking third was limited, failing to create significant chances.
Daniel Daga – 6.5/10: The Molde FC midfielder was expected to shine given his club pedigree but delivered a modest performance. While his marking was reliable, his passing lacked the precision needed to unlock Norway’s defense.
Israel Ayuma – 6.2/10: Ayuma’s role as a creative midfielder didn’t fully materialize. He attempted several speculative shots instead of exercising patience to build better opportunities for teammates.
Tahir Maigana – 6.4/10: After a slow start, Maigana grew into the game during the second half, showing bursts of energy and coming close to scoring when his shot rattled the crossbar.
Orseer Achichi – 6.2/10: Achichi struggled to make a meaningful impact in the attacking third, managing only a single half-chance in the first half and failing to influence the game thereafter.

Kparobo Arierhi – 6.0/10: The Mjondalen player showed good pressing and composure in the final third but was unable to convert his chances into goals, reflecting a lack of clinical finishing.
Nasiru Salihu – 6.3/10: Salihu contributed with solid defensive work and a high work rate. He completed four tackles, delivered three key passes, and attempted a shot, demonstrating a balanced performance.
