
Two vigilante group members tragically lost their lives following a bomb explosion believed to have been planted by Boko Haram militants in Gujba Local Government Area, Yobe State.
Security expert Zagazola Makama confirmed the incident in a statement posted on his official X account on Monday.
Makama reported that the explosion took place on Friday, September 27, near Madiya village along the Damaturu-Buni Yadi Road. The improvised explosive device (IED) detonated at approximately 2:30 p.m., instantly killing the two vigilantes.
The deceased were identified as 35-year-old Kinnafi Modu and 27-year-old Mamman Kasaisa. Additionally, two other vigilante members suffered severe injuries and were immediately transported to Damaturu General Hospital for urgent medical care.
According to Makama, a police unit led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Gujba, together with the Officer-in-Charge of the State Intelligence Bureau, promptly arrived at the scene to assist with victim evacuation and secure the area. Their swift response helped restore order following the blast.
He further mentioned that security forces have since intensified patrols and heightened vigilance along the Damaturu-Buni Yadi Road, deploying tactical teams to prevent any subsequent attacks.
This incident highlights the ongoing security challenges and the persistent menace of insurgent activities in Yobe State despite continuous counterterrorism efforts.
